As a professional flutist and teacher, Calisa performs solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire throughout all of California.
Performing Ensembles:
Calisa has had the opportunity to perform in a variety of ensembles, including Major Third, The Kashmir Quartet, the Del Lago Trio, Trio Cantando, the Buenos Aires Jazz Combo, The Long Beach Wind Quintet, The Cal State Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Opera, The Cal State LA Opera, and various orchestras throughout Southern California. Calisa frequently performs at local churches, including the First Presbyterian Church of Orange, First Lutheran Church of Orange, and First Congregational Church of Santa Barbara, where she collaborates with her pianist, Margaret Halbig.
You can also find Calisa playing around town at retirement homes, schools, and rehabilitation centers with pianist Margaret Halbig or guitarist David Malvinni.
Major Third, a trio that features Calisa, Flute, Shannon McCue, Viola, and Margaret Halbig, Piano is commonly hired for weddings, receptions and events. Other ensembles include flute and guitar, flute and viola, flute and cello, flute and string trio, and flute and percussion (with boyfriend Ryan Blauvelt).
Combinations of these various ensembles are always available, and we will be happy to work with you to select the perfect repertoire for your occasion. Please contact me for more information, and take a moment to listen to some of my live performances!
Non-Profit Involvement:
Calisa’s interest in non-profit work has given her the opportunity to work closely with the California Arts and Music Association in Santa Barbara, where she has presented lecture recitals to school aged children and the Women’s Board. This gives her the opportunity to introduce various types of music, specifically flute music, to a broader audience. Additionally, Calisa is a board member for Santa Barbara’s Taste of the Nation, a culinary event held in cities across the country to help end childhood hunger. On May 31st, Calisa’s group, The Kashmir Quartet, was featured at Taste of the Nation and was auctioned of as the premier live auction item for an in-home “Winemaker Dinner.” This auction item alone raised $2,000, and the event raised over $30,000 to help end child hunger.
Achievements:
Calisa received her Bachelor’s of Music from the Bob Cole Conservatory at Cal State Long Beach where she studied with Dr. John Barcellona. She is currently attending UC Santa Barbara where she studies with Jill Felber and is the Teaching Assistant for the UCSB Flute Department. Calisa is honored to have received the “Distinguished Performer” award from the UCSB Music Department for the 2008-2009 school year.
Calisa was accepted to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for the Professional Studies Diploma, where she will study with Tim Day, Principal of the San Francisco Symphony. She is so excited and amazed that she was accepted to this prestigious program!
In her first Master’s Recital on May 10th, 2008, Calisa had the amazing opportunity to have the first non-composer premiere of Ian Clarke’s “Tuberama” for flute and CD. This rock and roll inspired piece is heavily influenced by Jethro Tull and is tons of fun to play and to listen to!
Bookings:
I am currently booking for the 2009-2010 season. If you would like to discuss the possibility of having any of my chamber ensembles perform at your upcoming event, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to working with you!
